Fashion quilting

MICHAEL Michael Kors quilted bag,
7 For All Mankind denim skirt, jacket,
Charles David boots, Guess? T-Shirt

Originally meant to provide additional warmth to cold weather garments, quilting is no longer so much about functionality but more about style. It spread out its stitches from winter coats and the occasional Chanel bag to pretty much every item of the wardrobe – tops, shoes, belts and even sunglasses.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Quilted-shoulder
 leather jacket, $425
Armani Exchange "Classic" sunglasses, $70,
CaseMate Swarovski crystal iPhone 4 & 4S case, $48

Guess? Canuto sneakers, $69,
Vince Camuto Flawna flat, $89.95 (at Nordstrom)

This Spring/Summer is surprisingly welcoming to the quilting trend translating it into lightweight fabrics in clothes and bright juicy hues in leather goods, shoes and other accessories. The 3D texture and cleanness of this geometrical pattern gives a feel of understated luxury and undeniable sophistication even to quite common pieces. Executed in black or ivory, quilting has become a classic statement of elegance.
